Dear Friends,
I write this letter with a heavy heart. MOONSHOT has been funded for ten years purely by the generosity of its patrons and its corporate sponsors; and staffed by a dedicated board of volunteers. I am saddened to announce that the remaining events of the 2007 season have been canceled due to lack of funds. For the last few years our support has waxed and waned, much like the moon across the night sky. It seems that our community has grown less sympathetic to our cause and perhaps forgotten the true reasons this organization was founded. It was never meant to be just a "party". This is an organization dedicated to a noble pursuit: helping fund education and awareness of HIV/AIDS.. Far more important than personal feelings, agendas or egos, the race to educate the high risk groups does not stop because we are not there to fund it. This disease does not go away because we don't have a "Main Event". The truth, ladies and gentleman, is this disease IS the main event. Our most important tasks still lie ahead. Grants will be made, and a final celebration of MOONSHOT will be held this fall. Dissolution of an organization like this is an incredibly emotional journey, one that this board has not embarked on lightly. On behalf of the 2007 Board, it has been our pleasure to serve you, and hope that you will continue to support other organizations dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS. Sincerely, Tiffany A. Rice, President
